Mary Jane (Vogel) Clohessy, 87, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Boone Hospital. She was born to Louis and Odeal (Trebrake) Vogel on July 12, 1930 in St. Louis Missouri the sixth of seven daughters. She was married on October 15, 1949, in St. Louis to Joseph Kenneth Clohessy, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Mary was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, artist, teacher, business owner, volunteer, and dear friend. She and her husband, Joe, raised six children. Mary‘s primary vocation in life was that of a mother. A role she carried proudly. In addition to raising their children, Mary found time to volunteer at church and school functions for years. As a largely self-taught artist, Mary painted, displayed and sold her works all over the country. She and a dear friend, Cindy, ran their own business (The Mud Room) for some years in Moberly. Mary was a proud founding member of the Little Dixie Art Association and she enjoyed membership in the Fort Wayne Artist Guild and the Columbia Art League. She taught art to both children and adults.
Mary is survived by one daughter: Jill Winchell and husband, Mark of Little Rock, Arkansas, four sons: David and wife, Laura and their children, Spencer and Brian of St. Louis, Missouri; Kevin and husband, Randy Rodgers of Columbia, Missouri; Patrick and wife, Victoria and their children Gray and Lydia of Wausau, Wisconsin; Michael and wife, Carole and their children Carissa and wife Emily, Jordan and fiancé Katrina, Erica and Drake, great grandson Grant of Muncie, Indiana; sister Norma Molner of St. Louis, Missouri; Marilou Clohessy, widow of her son Brian of Chicago Illinois; other cousins, nieces, nephews, good neighbors, and some very dear friends in Fort Wayne and Muncie, Indiana and Moberly and Columbia, Missouri where she and Joe made their home for many years
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Joseph; her eldest son: Brian; Her sisters, Lillian Benz, Lucille Vogel, Vera Mayfield, Mildred Vogel, Sr. Edith Vogel, C. S. J.
Friends will be received from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia, with Msgr. Michael Flanagan celebrating Mass. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Haiti Library Foundation in care of the funeral home.
