A Memorial service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, Missouri on Tuesday, April 30th at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am.
Margaret Pratt was born November 16, 1924 to Coleman Ashley and Jessie Reynolds Stokes of Callaway County, Missouri. She graduated from New Bloomfield High School and attended Central Missouri State college in Warrensburg. She was an elementary teacher for two years in Callaway County. On February 17, 1943, Margaret married Russell Glenn Pratt while he was on boot leave from the Naval Air Station in Chicago. She accompanied him on his assignments in Memphis, Tennessee, and at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, where she worked in Civilian Personnel.
Margaret served as a Cub Scout den mother, and was involved with the PTA, having served as a past president. In 1966, Margaret began working for the Columbia Public Schools, retiring in 1994 after 28 years of service. As a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, Margaret was involved in the Children’s Department, served on the Board of Trustees and was an active member of the Christian Action and Study Circle. She also volunteered as a pink lady at the Boone County Hospital. Margaret enjoyed traveling, reading, walking, and bridge, and she treasured her many friends.
She is survived by son Philip, daughter-in-law Mary Olson Pratt and grandson, Brian Olson Pratt, all of Simi Valley, California; and several very special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Glenn Pratt, son Stephen, her parents, and three siblings, Lucy Ellen (Luellen) Lynes, Mary Frances (Frankie) Brooks, C. A. Stokes, Jr., a WWII casualty, and a nephew George Robert Brooks.
