Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service at 1:00 PM. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery's Tranquility Garden.
Don was born March 7, 1939 in California, Missouri to Wallace F. and Margaret L. (Miller) Morris. He attended California High School and completed his graduation requirements while in the US Army. He served in the Army from 1958 to 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5.
Don was married to Margaret Ann (Stone) Morris on November 10, 1963.
He worked for Western Union and also Henckel and McCoy Company. Don later worked for GTE for over 33 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion Post 202 in Columbia and of California Baptist Church in California, Missouri.
Don was an avid sports fan of the Missouri Tigers, attending home football games with his wife for many years. He also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. In earlier years, he would go trout fishing with his friends.
Don and his wife, Margaret, enjoyed going on cruises. They went on a Caribbean Disney Dream Ship cruise with their son, Jeffrey, and his family. Later, Don and Margaret went on an Alaskan Cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They also enjoyed traveling to visit their family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Don is survived by son Jeffrey Morris and his wife Rhonda and grandsons Charlie, Shane and Luke of Fredericksburg, Virginia; daughter Angela Morris of St. Louis; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Missouri Humane Society (616 Big Bear Blvd, Columbia, MO 65202).
