Amanda Schoenfeld, 71, of Columbia passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022 with her family by her side. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 19, 2022 at 10:30 am, both at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Amanda was born October 27, 1950 in St. Louis, MO, one of 9 children to Elmer Lee and Betty Jo (Wolfe) Schroeder. She was a 1969 Graduate of Pattonville High School in St. Louis and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO. She was a teacher for many years, beginning her teaching career with School of the Osage where she also assisted the Cheer team and sewed their uniforms. She met her future husband, Craig, on a blind date while in college. They would marry on June 11, 1976 in St. Louis. After their marriage, they moved to Columbia and Amanda began to teach at Russellville then Sturgeon schools. She took a break from teaching to raise her three children and opened an in-home daycare. As her youngest child entered kindergarten, she returned to teaching, first in early childhood at Apple School and then serving another 14 years teaching math with Columbia Public Schools. What Amanda loved most was being a Grandmother, but she also had a love of sewing and tending to her flower garden. She was also a member of the Columbia Garden Club and Silver Sneakers.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Craig Schoenfeld; children, Melissa (Kevin) Samuel of Columbia, Sarah (Brad) Bettmann of Olathe, KS, and Jeffrey (Isabelle) Schoenfeld of St. Valerien, Quebec, Canada; siblings, Karen (Jim) Van Horne of Houston, TX, Charlie (Marti) Schroeder of Parker, CO, Paul (Jill) Schroeder of St. Louis, Johanna (Bob) Gentle of St. Peters, Laura (Steve) Marsh of St. Peters, Steve (Katie) Schroeder of Hillsboro, and Scott (Lynn) Schroeder of Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, Avery and Andrew Samuel, Madelyn and Parazetta Bettmann, and Marie-Anne and Abigail Schoenfeld; sister-in-law, Debby Schroeder, and brother-in-law Dr. Roger Schoenfeld DO; many nieces, nephews, a loving extended family, and her beloved pets, Mollie and Willie. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Danny Schroeder.
