Richard was born on September 16th, 1968 in Xenia Ohio. In 1971 the family moved to Columbia, MD and Richard attended Sandy Spring Friends School and Wilde Lake High School. After High School, he enrolled at HCC and majored in the computer field. He formed an I. T. and Website business named after his daughter. In 2004, he moved to Venice, Florida where his Mom and Dad had a 2nd home. He only intended to be there for about six months and ended up staying there for 18 years. He loved Florida.
In 2014, he was diagnosed with organ failure and was given six months to live. He fought the good fight and lived for nearly seven years awaiting a transplant, before his journey ended on April 12th at the age of 52.
Richard loved writing. He wrote and published a total of 21 books. In his constant quest for knowledge, Richard took distance learning courses at Harvard, Yale and Princeton, studying law, philosophy ,theology, religions of the world and other subjects he was curious about. He enjoyed playing guitar and spending time with friends. Richard never met a stranger.
Richard leaves behind a loving family: his daughter Crystal Sky Blum; his parents Michael A. Blum, Sandra L. Blum; Brothers, Michael David and Jason; his niece Kaya, several uncles aunts and cousins and many friends.
Family will receive friends at Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Rd., Columbia, MD 21045 on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 10:30am to 1:30pm, where funeral services will begin at 1:30pm. Interment Columbia Memorial Park.
