Lynette Agatha Pittman, fondly known as Lyn was born on June 28th 1928 to Agatha and Charles Lakeman. Lyn was born into a loving family along with her older brother, Clifford Charles in the Bronx, New York. Lyn would so often tell us stories about the chicken and pig farms in her neighborhood, so unlike the Bronx that we know of today. Lyn attended NYU for 2 years before she fell in love and married Wendell.
Lyn met Wendell, her future husband at a dance hall in Brooklyn New York called the Savoy. I remember her many stories about how she couldn't wait to get home to tell her mom about the handsome man she had danced with all night. Lyn and Wendell were married on her birthday, June 28th 1947, and 9 months to day they welcomed their first daughter Sandra Lynn. Six years later while living in St. Albans New York ,they welcomed their daughter Terese Inez. Their love and strength was tested when they lost their infant son, Steven Charles at only 2 months old but they remained a faithful couple and their marriage lasted for 63 years only ending with the passing of Wendell in 2011 Lyn was truly a” Jack of all trades”. She learned to sew beautifully in the early years of their 63 years of marriage. Lyn was a talented artist, upholsterer, gardener, cook and she kept a beautiful home which she loved to decorate with exquisite and inviting taste. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was what a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Her ability to see the beauty in all things and people was what stood out the most. Everyone loved Lyn, and we were very proud daughters, and so grateful to have a mother like Lyn. She will be missed, but she will live in our hearts for years to come. We especially want to thank the caregivers at Ivy Manor who cared so lovingly for our mother in the last few years of her life’
