Dunbar was born December 21, 1925 in Orange New Jersey. After serving in World War II, and receiving an engineering degree from Rutgers University, he worked for the General Electric Company until retiring. He loved gardening, sailing, hiking, travel and had a zest for life and meeting new people.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Kim Birnie, his children, Dunbar Paul Birnie, III (Louise Senior), Susan Birnie Rasheed and Michael Kim, and three grandchildren, April Ruby Rose Birnie, Dunbar Paul Birnie, IV and Erynne Nur Rasheed. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Dunbar Paul Birnie and Ruth Perrine Birnie, sister, Grace Wilding Birnie and son-in-law, Ahsin Rasheed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, 1:00pm at the Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, MD 21044.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Vantage House Sidwell Garden fund, 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, MD 21044.
