Chester Francis Kupiec, Jr., 83, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Chester F. and Martha (Wisniewski) Kupiec.
Chet graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, Class of 1958. His education journey led him to The Catholic University of America, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's in Nuclear Engineering. He enjoyed a career that included working with the National Bureau of Standards, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, and General Physics Corporation (where he served as a Chief Engineering Instructor). While at General Physics, he traveled to many nuclear power plants to conduct operator training. He retired in 2000.
Outside work, Chet enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities, facilitating spiritual talks, listening to music, fixing cars, telling jokes and stories, Scouting, camping, hiking, birdwatching, traveling, and reading.
Chet's legacy lives on through his beloved children, William (Michelle) Kupiec, Theresa Abramovitz, Jake Kupiec (Robert Haight), Robert (Kimberly) Kupiec, his grandchildren, Allison (Mike) Devine, Adam Kupiec, Stacey (Brandon) Clabaugh, and Paul Lebert, Jr., and his great-grandson Grant Devine. He is also survived by his wife, Marjorie (Allan) of 60 years, his sisters, Patricia Racer, Nancy Dwyer, Jeanne (Donald) Page, and Carolyn Casey, and cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and Friends are invited to call at the Witzke Funeral Homes Inc. 5555 Twin Knolls Road. Columbia, MD 21045 on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m where a Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 p.m. Interment Private
