Brenda Mansfield Cley Washington, MD

Dr. Brenda Mansfield Cley (Washington), aged 80, passed away on August 18, 2020 at her home in Ellicott City, MD. She was the daughter of the late William T. (Jimmy) Cley, Catherine (Saulsbury) Cley and Theresa (Blake) Cley.

She was born on May 21, 1940 at Provident Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She attended public schools in Baltimore, and was graduated from Western High School in 1957. She attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN, and received her MD from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1964, specializing in radiology. She did her residency at Sinai Hospital in North Baltimore.

Dr. Cley was employed at Group Health Association (now Humana) in Washington, DC and Kaiser Permanente in Maryland. She retired from Kaiser in 2004 as chief radiologist.

She married the late Alfred R. Washington in 1965 in St. Louis, MO, and the couple returned to reside in the Howard County area, after briefly living in the Village of Cross Keys. She is survived by her daughter, Kay-Megan Washington, PsyD, and sons William C. Washington and Geoffrey W. Washington, Esq., daughter-in-law, Delese LaCour, MD, granddaughters Gabriella E.Washington and Alexandra C. Washington, and devoted companion Robert Young, as well as numerous loving friends and extended family.

Services will be held at Witzke's Funeral Homes, Inc., at 5555 Twin Knolls Road in Columbia, MD on August 27, 2020. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 2 PM, with a memorial service to follow. Because in-person attendance is limited to fifty persons due to pandemic restrictions, the services will also be streamed live. While floral tributes will be accepted, friends wishing to honor Dr. Cley in lieu of flowers are asked to donate to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra or the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

Family will receive friends at Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Rd., Columbia, MD 21045 on Thursday, August 27th, from 11am to 2pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm.
