I am still in shock.  Ann was my friend and comrade in the Howard County community.  I met her when I was volunteering in PTA and she was on the Howard County Board of Education.   Ann was always cheerful and never did I ever see her sad, she always had a smile.  Mad at someone, yes.  Did she ever speak negatively about anyone, yes she did, but not for long.  Was she perfect, no, she wasn't but close.  But though not religious, she loved everyone even those who disliked her.  I tried to share Christ with her and she did listen to me but she to my knowledge never accepted Christ, but Ann was a better Christian than most Christians. She spoke positively, always, and was always smiling and laughing.  She was the one who convinced me to run for the Columbia Association as the Long Reach representative. She even supported me for other volunteer positions that I ran in Howard County.  When my wife developed breast cancer, it was Ann who was there to help.   She cooked meals for us, she took my wife to her chemo treatments.   She volunteered to do anything we needed at any time or location...why because that is Ann, that is who she was.  Ann was the most loving and caring person you would ever meet or know.  Ann always asked about my daughter and how she was doing in life and often offering suggestions. What a role model she was indeed. She will be missed by me and my family, very much.  We are a whole lot poorer without her.  She left a hole in me and my family's heart and that of the community.   Rest peacefully my friend, always.

Dear Family of Ann,

My condolences to your family.  I knew Ann when she was president of HCEA.
She was such a kind, hard working leader.  Ann always took such an interest in our union activities.  My prayers and thoughts are extended to everyone in her family.  I will remember Ann as caring, dedicated teacher and friend.

I was saddened to  hear of Ann’s passing, I met Ann many years ago as kids in North Carolina on the Quarry Road. While she and her brothers were visiting their grandparents. We were friends for many years until she went to college and moved to Maryland. I will forever cherish those years we shared and the fun we had on the quarry road and in Jonesville NC. Rest well my friend .

My family was so blessed to have known your dear Mom. She loved her students. She gave her all for Howard County. May she rest in eternal peace. 


Ann and I have been workout friends at the Athletic Club for countless years, first in Build Your Bones and later adding in LaBlast, Fit Essentials and Joints in Motion. How devastated and miserable I feel knowing that we can never again work out together and enjoy convivial chats about numerous shared interests including social justice, national and international politics, mutual love of our cats and humorous playing around with new, to us, vocabulary such as definestration and deconfliction.  How I admired her vociferously stated opinions, backed up by timely examples and tempered with warmth and caring. She regularly sent me links to issues about which we both felt strongly.

She was such a committed, ubiquitous denizen of exercise classes even to the point where when the club, following a seemingly endless closure, re-opened in the ongoing pandemic summer of 2020, we were at times the only two attending some wonderful, brand new classes, "holding down the fort" so they wouldn't get cancelled for lack of participants. I will always treasure her "complaints" about how hard (NOT!) the workout was, groaning audibly, as the two of us, masked and amid much hilarity, slid disposable paper plates, in lieu of plastic sliding exercise disks during high Covid prevalence, over the floor with our arms outstretched.

What fun it has been over the years playing/working out beside this force of nature with a golden heart. Dear Ann, you are and will always be so very missed. With deep affection, Carole
                                         

Forever and regretfully missing from our Columbia Athletic Club community:

Fond Memories: Ann - delightfully bursting into LaBlast Dance – filling room with smile – pleasant greetings all around – dropping carry bag against front mirror – securely plugging personal cooling fan into post of honor (newcomers “learning” to take note) – brief visits with long-time friends and new acquaintances – fun-filled outbursts while movin’ and groovin’ in LaBlast Dance. Ann and Galena - clandestinely circulating greeting cards for signature and/or collecting gift card donations to “appreciate” someone within the AC community.

Athletic Club Lounge: “Queen Ann” holding court - with never-ending circulation of friends - sharing and catching latest news – dropping a kind word here and there about someone - or some new and delicious Restaurant in Howard County – distinctive laughter floating across the room – sharing mouth-watering pastry treats.
Passing through the lounge toward coffee - I see extended hand waiving in my direction – it’s Ann! – with welcoming smile.

The Athletic Club mix will never be the same – without its special “Ann” ingredient.

Im very sorry for your lost. She was a great person always loving an kind. Always made sure i was doing good. I will definitely miss you very much.

I am shocked and heartbroken to learn that my dear, funny, outspoken, thoughtful friend is gone. 
Ann was a joy to have around. She was a lot of fun.
We met at the gym, where she has many friends.
She is missed already. 

My heart goes out to her family.

I was so saddened to hear of Anne’s death. She was in many of the exercise classes I take. We talked about each of us being Howard County teachers. She was vivacious and friendly and larger than life. It is such a sad loss for her family!  My heart is with them. Gail Zitnay

Miss Anne was my next door neighbor for around 10 years.  I remember they day she moved  in.  She instantly took to my daughter Peyton, they were both very outgoing and outspoken, and over the years they shared the same interests and views on things. We really loved how friendly she was, especially to our children. She talked to me often about her daughters, which she would always tell me, were born the same year as me. She also loved to talk about her 2 grandchildren, and how proud she was of them.  When my daughter Brooklyn was 
born, almost 9 years ago, she paid to have all my back yard weeds and trees trimmed and cut as a gift for me, because she knew I couldn’t do it. Over the years, she had always been so kind to my children, always complimenting them on something, or gifting them books, plants, movie tickets, signs and sweet treats. She would always let the kids come over and see her cats, which she loved.  It is so hard walking outside everyday and not seeing her. She was always running around somewhere, but when she got back to her house nobody better be parked in her two parking spots. Haha!
 My whole family really cared about her. 
We are so saddened and shocked by her passing.  She was truly a wonderful, passionate, and caring lady, and we will 
miss her dearly!! Rest in peace Miss Anne😥
