Shafqat was born on July 27, 1951, in Dhundianwala village in the district of Gujranwala, Pakistan, and completed his bachelor’s degree in religion and accounting at Pakistan Adventist Seminary. He immigrated to the US in 1977, eventually settling in Silver Spring, Maryland. Putting his accounting education and business skills to work, he became the owner and operator of a fine art supply and framing store whose clientele included prestigious local schools such as Georgetown University. Having a highly developed work ethic and a commitment to higher education, he added to his skill set by completing his RN degree. He later moved to Redlands, California and began working as a psychiatric nurse at Patton State Hospital in 2005.
Shafqat will always be remembered as a beacon of light to his family, friends, and co-workers. He was a devoted father of one and a constant source of strength and example for his siblings, nieces, and nephews. His co-workers described him as a “best friend” and an “encouraging and a very generous person.” He loved his work because, in his words, “It is fun taking care of the patients and bringing joy into their lives”.
He leaves behind his wife, Viola; daughter, Rebecca; brothers, Ashraf, Afzal, and Dilshad; sisters, Zohra Shana, Shireen Mall, and Parveen Peter, and their families; and a host of relatives and friends.
