Roger grew up in Diriamba where he finished elementary school at the Instituto Pedagogico. Later he graduated from high school at The Baptist School of Managua where he was given the nickname “Tanque Rocha (Rocha the Tank)”, because of his excellent defense in soccer. It was no secret that the players felt safe and confident with his kick. The Baptist School team won first place in the National Soccer Championship against Colegio Centroamerica. This was a victory that was never forgotten by those who were a part of it. In 1953 after Roger graduated from High School he came to the United States. His parent’s made an effort for him to attended Harbor College where he earned his Mechanical Engineer degree.
After finishing his studies, Roger went back to Nicaragua and worked at Mercedes Benz and “La Salud”. Later he started his own trucking company that was successful until 1983 when he and his family moved to Los Angeles, California due to the Nicaraguan revolution. Leaving 25 years of work he said, “God gave, God took away and His name will be praised”. When Roger moved to California he worked at Ready Pac as a Mechanic Engineer until he retired.
Roger received Jesus in his heart at an early age. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Diriamba and took the initiative of the new temple construction. He was one of the founders of Hispanic ministry at Sunrise Church and served as an usher and leader.
Roger loved to travel, take pictures, make family films, and be the first one to have the latest technology. He enjoyed planning vacations with the family and visiting new places. The best vacation he had was in 1974 when he took a road trip from Nicaragua to LA round trip.
Roger was called to the presence of his Creator on January 3rd, 2019 in Rialto, California and has left to celebrate his passing to heaven. Roger is survived by his lovely and devoted wife of 61 years Nubia. Also his children: Carlos, Oralia, Sandra, Roger, Daisy (adopted child), Nubia, and Ramon. Grandchildren: Claudia, Berni, Jonathan, Donaldo, Harry, Carlos Danilo, Andrea, Carla, Sandra Tiatira, Alex, Karina, Ricardo, Ruth, Lorena, Tiffany y Kevin. He also leaves 12 great grandchildren.
