After graduating from SBVC, she transferred to the University of Redlands where she studied and earned her bachelor of arts and lifelong teaching credential. While she started her teaching career in Barstow and Rialto schools, she eventually settled into her position at Jurupa Hills Elementary School, part of Fontana Unified School District. She remained at Jurupa Hills throughout her teaching career. She taught the children of South Fontana, their children, and their grandchildren.
Martha passed away on June 14, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, a city she and her husband, Cayetano Treviño López, always loved. She was surrounded by family and loved ones.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Felipe and Maria; Lino; Alma and Laura; Hilario and Laura; and Rosa and Anthony. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Guillermo, Julian, Maya, Lucia, Zoe, Texas, Kira, River, Esme, Rambo, and one great grandchild, Julian, Jr.
She is survived by her big brother, Dionicio "Nicho" Hernandez, who resides in Riverside, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cayetano; two brothers Ernesto and Salvador; and her great grandchild Ivan.
Martha was a teacher to the very end, carefully scaffolding, knowing what each one of her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren exactly needed.
Martha was a quiet trailblazer, never seeking out the spotlight. She gave of her time, volunteering with various churches and public libraries. She was an advocate for those often overlooked people and families in her community. She was beautiful, intelligent, poised, dignified, and funny as all get out.
Martha was loved far and wide
and will always be remembered far and wide.
