William “Bill” Kenneth Peters, aged 42, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on Friday, May 26th 2023. He never regained consciousness and was declared brain dead Monday, May 29th 2023. He was a registered organ donor and his passing has now saved the lives of three other people.
Bill was born 17 minutes prior to his identical twin brother, Joseph (“Joe”), on December 31st 1980 at St Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, to Kim Andrea Beaupain and John Herbert Peters, joining an older sister, Rebecca (“Becky”). Bill attended The Divine Redeemer Catholic School and The Fountain Valley School before completing undergraduate studies in biochemistry and chemistry at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004.
In 2005 Bill married Rebecca Baldermann (div. 2018) and became the adoring father of Kai (b. 2006), Julie (b. 2009), and Abigail (b. 2013). He achieved a Master’s degree in Chemistry in 2008 at the University of Colorado at Denver and a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2013 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He taught and conducted scientific research at UC Denver, UC Boulder, the Los Alamos National Laboratories, and most recently at Lockheed Martin Space.
We remember Bill for his devotion to his three children, his mentorship of colleagues and collaborators, his love for nature, and his wide expanse of intellectual interests and capacities (seen in his book collection). Bill loved to play with his kids, making bread and pizza, and doing hikes with them, and was, every day, a total goofball.
Bill is survived by his three courageous children, Kai, Julie, and Abigail; parents John and Kim; twin brother Joseph and his wife Penny Burke; and sister Rebecca with her husband, Matthew Warne, and their children, David, Thomas, and Catherine.
