Bill was born on February 28, 1935 to Karl and Barbara Baier in College Point, Long Island, New York. He lived in College Point until the age of 9 years. His family then moved to a dairy farm in Delhi, New York where Bill attended Delaware Academy School. He graduated from Delaware Academy, class of 1953. He then left Delhi to attend college in Syracuse, New York at Syracuse University. Upon graduating from Syracuse University in 1957, Bill joined IBM Corporation. During his employment at IBM he served as an industrial engineer, in numerous personnel positions, to include personnel manager, and in facilities and engineering management. He retired from IBM in 1994.
Bill was drafted into the United States Army from 1958-1960 and was called up again in 1961-1962 as part of a reserve unit during the Lebanon Crisis. In 1960, Bill married Mary Hyacinth Askew and together they lived in Washington, D.C., Arkansas, Texas, Maryland and finally landed in Colorado Springs in 1994.
He leaves behind his 5 children, Leslie (Mike) Heritage, Laura (Bob) Rothschilds, Greg (Judy) Baier, John (Sharon) Baier and Jeanette (Todd) Gould, 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Baier, his brother, Karl Baier, Jr., his father, Karl Baier, Sr. and his mother Barbara Schneeweiss Baier.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, on August 12, 2021, at 11:00 am with Fr. Ken Przybyla presiding.
Final resting place will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland.
