Thomas F. Ostenberg, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away December 21, 2013 at home in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a long illness.
Tom was born in New London, CT to Frank and Dorthea Ostenberg. His was a military family who lived in many exotic and exciting locations, one of which was Hawaii, where as a two year old he survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. After finishing high school Tom entered West Point Military Academy, graduating with the class of 1962, after which he joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers with the rank of Second Lieutenant. Tom continued his education earning a Master’s Degree in Engineering at Stanford University and a Masters in Personnel Management. Tom met Judith Testerman. They married October 11, 1969 during an unexpected blizzard at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Colorado Springs. They were assigned across the US, including Hawaii, and Germany. Tom’s last station was Ft. Wainwright, AK where he retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Tom then began work as a Civil Engineer at Western State College in Gunnison, CO where he and his family built a home. Upon returning to the Springs, he worked on projects for Higgenbotham, Briggs, & Assoc. and at Denver International Airport. Before retiring he was the Project Manager at UCCS.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, his son Brian, daughter-in-law Rachel, granddaughters Christiana and Rebecca; his daughter Lara; sister Jane Florence and nephews Jack, Mike, and Pat.
Services will be held January 2, 2014 at 10:30am at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs, with a 9:45am viewing. Burial is to follow at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
