Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Shirley was a longtime member of First Christian Church and in later years, Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Shirley graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1951 (now Palmer High), and attended college in Enid, Oklahoma.
An independent insurance broker, Shirley was one of the first women to become licensed and to sell insurance for Globe Life Insurance Co. She spent many years traveling to rural areas in Eastern Colorado building her insurance sales business.
Shirley was an active member of the Colorado Springs Sertoma Club, and Sales Professionals where she established and maintained long term relationships with fellow members.
Shirley moved to Loveland, CO in 2009 to be closer to her children and grandchildren, her pride and joy.
Shirley loved to travel, and had many exciting adventures visiting many regions of Europe, including the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Spain, England, Holland, Austria, Switzerland and Egypt (where she visited the Great Pyramids and rode a camel!). She most recently traveled to Boston during the Fall Season and had a wonderful time.
Shirley is survived by her children, all of whom reside in Colorado: Richard Enger (Tami) of Longmont, Lisa Bonneville (John) of the Black Forest, and Christina Allem (Ryan Smith) of Longmont; grandchildren Courtney Adams (Jerry) of Erie, and Eric Enger, of Longmont, and 4 great grandchildren.
Shirley is also survived by her closest and dearest lifetime friend, Shirley Sutton of Alpharetta, GA.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Grace Bowler; brother Richard Kulya and sister Sidney Carfagno.
There will be a family graveside service July 20, 2018.
It was Shirley’s wish that there would be a party thrown in her honor rather than a funeral service.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held following the service. Please contact Mountain View Mortuary for information.
