She was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on May 22, 1987, and spent the first six years of her life in Torrington, Wyoming, before moving with her family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she spent the formative years of her life.
Rebecca had diverse interests, an immense curiosity, and excelled at many things.
She played first-chair clarinet in elementary and junior high school, was named MVP of the dance team at Cheyenne Mountain High School, and swam on a masters swim team as an adult.
She was an intellectual and a gifted conversationalist. She read widely, asked good questions, exuded empathy, and had a dry, tasteful, and sophisticated sense of humor.
She had a deep appreciation for nature and spent a lot of time in her final years hiking in the mountains near Colorado Springs.
She was interested in other cultures, too, traveling to Europe and studying in China while a student at the University of Denver, where she majored in finance and minored in Chinese, graduating magna cum laude in 2010.
Her most pronounced personality trait was kindness, which shone through in all of her interactions, but especially in the gentle way she cared for animals.
She was not gentle, however, when it came to playing Backgammon and Oklahoma Gin with her father and brothers. She was a fierce, honest, and skilled competitor. And she won and lost with grace.
She was a good girl and a loving daughter, sister, and friend. She was mature beyond her years, described by yoga instructors as an old soul.
And she was a beautiful girl, though her outward beauty was eclipsed by her inner beauty.
Rebecca is survived by her parents, a sister, three brothers, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her family will host a small, private gathering at a time to be determined.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, contributions can be made in her name to Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural resources of North Cheyenne Cañon Park.
