Patricia “Susan” K. Wampler, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away March 8th, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born May 2nd, 1951 in Scott City, Kansas, and was the third of six children born to John O’Neal and Doris Smith.
Susan spent her first few years in Scott City, Kansas, and later moved to McAllen, Texas where she graduated from high school. After graduation, Susan’s family moved to Sterling, Colorado, where she met her husband Joe Wampler. Susan and Joe were married in November of 1970, and their first son, Tony was born in 1972 while they lived in Sterling. In 1974, Susan and her family moved to Streator, Illinois, and they welcomed their second son Kevin in 1975. In 1978, Susan’s family moved to the small town of Sandwich, Illinois where she started attending church at Somonauk Baptist Church. She began teaching high school and junior high students at Somonauk Baptist School in 1981. Susan loved working with the kids and taught them strong Christian values. Susan’s ability to connect and laugh with her students help develop life-long friendships even to this day. In 1986, Susan and her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. She worked as an administrator for a few companies but spent most of her working career in Colorado working at Focus on the Family. Susan did a great job providing admin support to leadership at Focus, and she developed many friendships there that continued to thrive even until her passing.
Susan found the Lord in 1980 under Pastor Bruce Speer at Somonauk Baptist Church. From that point forward, she was devoted to living the Christian life that Jesus wanted her to live. Her strong Christian values and beliefs were unwavering, and her love for the Lord brought joy to all those who knew her. Susan’s smile brought light to any room and those who knew her will always remember that smile and laugh. It was contagious.
She leaves behind her family who loved her dearly including: Husband of 50 years, Ronald Joe Wampler; Children, Michael “Tony” Anthony Wampler of Parker, Colorado and Kevin James Wampler and wife Kelly of Poway, California; Grandchildren, Sydney Wampler, Maverick Wampler, Mason Wampler and Tanner Castle; Siblings, Peggy Smith (Preceded in Death), Robert John O’Neal of Falcon, Colorado, Jim O’Neal of Windsor, Colorado, Steve O’Neal of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Joan Paulson of Dickenson, North Dakota: along with many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A small and private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A private burial will be at Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
