Owen Maxwell McCullough

Owen (Bud) Maxwell McCullough went Home to the LORD on May 10, 2023. He was born in Belle Fourche, South Dakota on December 2, 1929, to Andrew and Jesse (Rogers) McCullough. Owen was preceded in death by his precious wife, Juanita Lurene McCullough (Webb), with whom he was blessed with three children, Gwen (Paul Jr) Jackson, Scott (Kim) McCullough, and Coleen (Ron) Cody. Lurene passed in June 1978. He was also recently preceded in death by his second beloved wife, Delores McCullough, who passed on March 10, 2023. Through that loving marriage, Owen became stepfather to four children, Kim (Scott) McCullough, Cheryl (Tracy) Lang, Renee (Robert) Mooney, and Jeff (Melissa) Snyder, as well.

Owen, or as his family and friends referred to him, Bud, lived over 93 years and was blessed with good health for most of that time. As most families of that time, he was part of a very large family of 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 2 half-brothers, and 1 half-sister. Lloyd, Floyd, Mary, Wilda, Don, Doreen, Shirley, Gerry, and Corinne have all preceded him in death. His youngest brother, Melvin, has been a precious companion to Bud in these last years that they enjoyed together.

Bud graduated Belle Fourche High School in South Dakota in 1947 and picked up a few odd jobs until joining the Army in 1951. Dad served for two years as a heavy equipment operator and then later as a mountaineer. His favorite duty assignment was in Austria, where he had considered re-enlistment to be able to stay there longer.

Bud and Lurene enjoyed many sweet years together raising their three children. Surrounded by extended family in Colorado Springs, there were many family fishing trips each summer, big family Christmas dinners, shared bowling teams, and they enjoyed making memories together in the outdoors. Bud was heartbroken when she passed in June 1978.

Then, in 1996, his friendship with his daughter-in-law, Kim’s, Mom (Delores) grew into more. In July 1997, Bud and Delores married. They lived a loving life filled with visits from their 7 kids,16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. They loved to golf together each week in their early retirement, go to Cripple Creek for a spontaneous afternoon of lunch and slot machines, and go out to breakfast during the week together. Every football season, you could always find Bud in front of the tv watching his Broncos and Delores would be next to him, crocheting a blanket for one of their new family additions.

In their last few years together, they moved into Broadmoor Court Assisted Living Home, where they enjoyed visits from their family and making new friends in their new home. They were loved by all and most especially by their caretakers! The family would like to thank the Broadmoor Court Assisted Living Team for their incredible love, care, and support of our parents over their last few years!

It is with a grateful heart for our LORD, that our family knows that we will one day see Dad again. Until that day, we treasure our memories of our precious father.
