The oldest of 6 children, Nancy was born November 10, 1942 in Fort Collins, Colorado to the late Walter Bertrand Snyder and Audrey Ovella Elrod. Growing up on her family’s farm and ranch in Dove Creek, Colorado, Nancy learned the lessons of hard work, fair dealing, and planning by the seasons that allowed her family to thrive in the beautiful but unforgiving high desert plateau country of the Four Corners. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1960 and received a degree in Home Economics from Colorado State University.
On April 2, 1966 Nancy married Alfred Earle Spry in Pueblo, Colorado. Together they raised two sons and a daughter. As the wife of an Officer and equal partner with Earle in his military career, Nancy applied her formidable skills as a hostess and homemaker to support her husband and her country for 29 years, then in retirement made their home in Charlottesville, Virginia while leading a team as Director for Mary Kay Cosmetics. They later moved back to the area where they had fallen in love, building a home in Colorado Springs. It was there that Nancy continued to explore her love of gardening, discovered a passion for painting landscapes and, as Earle’s health declined, continued to lovingly care for him in their home and experience life fully together.
Nancy believed that “My help cometh from the Lord” and, as a member of Chapel of our Saviour Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs, served her community with offerings of time in the church gardens and with the pastoral care ministries of “Daughters of the King” and Community of Hope.
Nancy is survived by her two sons and their wives, Louis and Carol, and Edward and Kaysie; her daughter and her husband, Anne and John Huddleston; three grandchildren, Tyler Spry and Ella and Jack Huddleston; two brothers, Sidney Snyder and Fred Snyder; her sister Phyllis Crowley as well as her many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Karen, her brother John, and her husband Earle.
Funeral services for Nancy Sue Spry will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14th, 2016, at Chapel of Our Saviour. The Rev. De Freeman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Visitation at Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 Fourth St., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by the Service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her memory to Daughters of the King at Chapel of Our Saviour. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Pikes Peak Hospice and the pastoral care ministries of Chapel of Our Saviour for their help and support.
