She was born Mary Jewel Clark in Manitou, Colorado to Beulah Marie Corley on November 20, 1930. Her early childhood was spent among her extended family – her mother, grandparents, aunts and uncles. In 1942 she gained a stepfather, Orval Amos Tierney, who adored her as if she were his own.
In 1946, she met and married John Douglas Meyer on August 1st, 1946, just 6 weeks after their first date. They had three children, a son, Michael Orval, born July 1947, and daughters Patricia Marie, born March 1949, and Roberta Kathleen, born January 1965. They were married 54 years.
Her son, Michael, preceded her in death. Jewel cared for him with a tenderness and devotion that she would repeat over and over in her life. Later, she would repeat this care for her mother her stepfather, her husband, and her aunt, Vina Worth. She did so with the great love and kindness that marked her relationship with all those lucky enough to know her.
After 20 years traveling as an Army wife, Jewel worked at JC Penney for fifteen years, then retired to volunteer many years at Memorial Hospital and the Catholic Church at Peterson Field AFB. She still found time for travel, family, and a wide circle of friends.
Jewel is survived by her children, Patricia (Meyer) Agres, Stuart Agres, Kathleen (Meyer) West, Christopher West, and her beloved granddaughters, Jori Agres and Alicia Agres.
A memorial service was held at her home on Friday, July 8th, 2016. Interment will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 11, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Rd, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
