Marianne was born in Limburg, Germany, May 17, 1926, the third of four children born to the union of the late Phillip and Alma (Hustig) Reitz.
Marianne’s young life was shattered by WWII. Forced to grow up quickly she witnessed the devastation of the war conflict. During the war she served a short time in the German Navy. Following the desolation of the war, Marianne endured and managed to put her life back together. After the war, Marianne met the man of her dreams, Harrison Mitchell. They married in Berlin and soon became a family. Marianne came to the United States as an Army wife and began her journey in a new country and proudly became a United States citizen while the family was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Marianne’s deep-rooted work ethic along with Harrison’s, created a wonderful life for their children. Harrison retired from the military, the family relocated to Colorado Springs. Marianne became an employee of the Broadmoor Hotel and soon after was hired by Hewlett Packard where she spent the remainder of her working career, retiring after 21 years of dedicated employment.
Marianne and Harrison built their dream mountain home in Florissant, Colorado, eventually spending their lives between Colorado and Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. Marianne’s friends and family were the focus of her life. Once their grandchildren arrived, Marianne and Harrison decided to make Colorado Springs their home base where they remained for the duration of their lives.
Marianne was preceded in death by her Husband, Harrison and her son, Harrison Jr. Left to cherish her memory, loving children, James of Colorado Springs; Sylvana (Clyde) of Colorado Springs; treasured grandchildren, Lauren, Cameron and Evan; siblings Ingeborg Fairweather of Wylie, TX, Herbert Reitz of Duisberg, Germany and Christa Kranke of Gelsenkirchen, Germany. A host of loving extended family members and friends.
Visitation will take place Monday, August 3, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Swan-Law Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs.
