She was the best teacher I have ever had she taught me how to read write I was very great full knowing her this one time I was choking on a hard candy and she came to save me she will forever be in my good memories

A year has gone by and I miss you so.  I think about the conversations we used to have, about family, our boys, work and school. I hope and pray that you are now at peace and without pain.  

Alex and Ben, please know that your mom loved you both so very much and always wanted the best for both of you.

Dear Streng Family--I had tried for years to get in touch with Karen but had no luck, probably due to my ineptitude with social media. And then, searching once again, I found her obituary, today. My dear friend, Karen, my college roommate, best friend in those years (and really, can a best friend ever stop being one?), only bridesmaid at my wedding--and then we lost touch through the years with my family traveling to other countries and no email. It was such a delight to know Karen--she taught me so much about friendship and steadiness and responsibility. She met my first two children, and,  Luke, the oldest, who died five years ago, always remembered her "Ta-dah!" from when he was a toddler and she had encouraged him. Seeing her photos teaching EL to young students--I can imagine their delight in a teacher who was so down-to-earth, caring, and responsible. A good listener and that is not said lightly. I am sad I wasn't able to connect, and sadder still knowing she's gone. I send all of you--Ann especially whom I knew at college--you two sisters were the envy of so many of us without a similar relationship--and Peter, and of course, Erwin and Marie. Peter, too--I can still remember laughing so hard with Karen and Ann about Peter's toes. Such  a small memory but vivid, along with all the rest. Karen was there for my formative years as we stepped fully into o our adulthood. I miss her. May your memories of her sustain all of you. Love, Mary Jo (Felderman) Amani

I knew Karen from when she would come to PWES to teach our students.  We frequently ended up in the staff lounge eating lunch at the same time - usually late after others were gone.  She had such a sweet gentle nature and I always enjoyed her company.  She always made to sure to ask how my day was going.  It was obvious to me that she cared deeply about her students and was committed to helping them.  Her innate kindness came straight from her heart.  She will be missed.

Karen was the "Best" Mother that ever existed for my Grandchildren, Alexander and Benjamin Curnell.  She called 
me "Mom Curnell" .  She was always faithful to keep in touch.
The extended family will continue to keep the Hope alive.
God is good.  Thanks that she was a part of our life for a while.

Although mere words cannot express, The depth of loss we feel, It sometimes helps to read a verse, To aid the Heart to heal.

To Karen's family-Karen  worked at PWES for only a short time, but she had the most gentle demeanor, and it was impossible not to instantly like her. What I will miss the most is how she would get a little smile when something struck her as funny. She was always professional, and so very conscientious. A beautiful soul, who will be missed.

Karen and I started working together at Lewis-Palmer Elementary School a long time ago---almost 16 years ago if I remember correctly!  She was such a conscientious EL teacher and loved her students so much!  She spent countless hours researching and developing great lessons for her students.  In addition to being a great teacher, Karen was a treasured friend.  She and I became good friends over the years.  Karen had such pride in her work, and that pride was the basis of our friendship.  Karen's greatest pride was in her sons.  She was so happy to see them graduate high school, get jobs, move on to college; their success made her so proud.   I will never forget Karen's 60th birthday party that the staffs of PWES and LPES threw for her!  She beamed the entire evening!  She was so happy to know that her friends cared for her and wanted to celebrate with her.  Karen will always be part of the LPES family, and she will be missed.     Condolences to Ben and Alex and the rest of Karen's family.  I am praying for all of you.

I loved seeing Karen's smile around LPES!   She exuded such a kind and gentle spirit that blessed those who were around her.   Sending prayers of peace and comfort to her family...  

I will miss Karen. I felt a camaraderie with her. Sometimes she and I would be the last ones in the building at the end of the day. She shared loving thoughts of her boys and parents with me. She appreciated her parents' example of faith.

Karen had such a sense of love and duty for those under her care. She was thorough in making sure everything was done properly to help her students succeed. She loved her students and they found her to be a caring friend.  Her example will live on.

I was honored to work alongside Karen for 5 years. Her heart for children, and her quiet insistence that her EL students deserved equity and excellence in instruction set a high bar for all of us. 

I remember our Capturing Kids' Hearts staff training where Karen was laughing and sharing her own heart and reveling in how we could further take good care of kids. The world has lost a good and kind soul. We will remember Karen and remember the importance of hard work, focused effort, and putting people first. 

So sorry to see such a loss...Karen was so dedicated as a mother and educator...genuinely kind person. Thoughts and prayers of strength and peace to family and friends.

The LPES community with miss Ms. Streng’s sweet presence in our school. She was so passionate about her students and reading. My condolences to her family and loved ones. 

Karen was unique. Beautiful inside and out. She was full of knowledge about her profession and the job she loved the most—being a mom.  I will always admire how diligently she worked towards providing the best EL service for all her students. The EL program at LPSD was fortunate to have had such an inspiring woman. I’ll miss you dearly Karen, but I know you will continue to guide us from Heaven.

It was a privilege to have worked alongside Karen. She was an amazing teacher to many students who were learning English as a second language. A tireless teacher, she typically was the first in the school and last to leave. Her dedication to her students, colleagues, and her profession was unsurpassed.  As an English major she was the perfect co-worker to have your work proofread! At work, she was very detailed oriented as well as dedicated to doing the best for her students. She and two other coworkers lead an initiative to revamp curriculum as well as develop a yearly "to-do" list, so all English Learner staff knew what to expect as the school year progressed.

She loved her sons. This we knew by the stories of her admiration for them.  For fourteen years we were all ears to hear of her joys as well as typical frustrations of being a mom of young boys, teenagers and now young men.  She loved her sons.

Many of us have a super fun memory of her birthday in January of 2018. It was a surprise and it packed the back room of the Pikes Peak Brewery.  Such a turnout just showed the admiration of her district peers. She was loved!

I miss Karen - her smile, her dedication to her students and work, her stories, and how she contributed positively to my life and so many others. Although her physical presence will leave a void, I pray her spiritual presence is at peace. Rest now and be at peace Karen, by the side of God for all eternity.

Karen was such a help to me when I was new to the EL program. She was very patient and willing to explain something to me and did so in a very clear manner.  It was obvious she really knew her stuff and was very diligent in making sure she understood it herself. I will miss her sweet, kind nature.
