John Edward Morin (affectionately known to most as “Johnny”), 46, left this world unexpectedly on May 13, 2013. He was a hard-working reliable provider for his family and a faithful husband who loved his wife and 2 boys. Even though he is no longer with us, he will always be remembered in our hearts.
John was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend to so many. He was a native resident of Colorado Springs, attended elementary school at Pauline Memorial Catholic School, and graduated in Palmer High School’s class of 1985. Through his high school years he worked in the family owned business. After graduation, he was employed by the Southland Corporation in 1986, and earned the distinction of “Top District Store Manager” early in his career while overseeing stores in the Colorado Springs and Frisco, Colorado areas. Throughout his 14-year tenure with the company he studied management and accounting, and had held the position of Controller. He discovered that one of his best repeat customers was a young lady (Sherri McCann) who he attended elementary school with – they soon began dating. He was proud of Sherri’s artistic nature, and helped her with various craft projects. They were married August 28, 1993. He teamed up with his father-in-law to simultaneously build high-end custom homes. In 2000, John shifted jobs to the Frito Lay Corporation as a Route Sales Representative in the Colorado Springs and Fountain areas. During his 13 years with the company, he earned the “Ring of Honor Award for U.S. Operations” multiple times. A recognized leader within the industry, John consistently improved sales on various, struggling routes over the past 12 years.
In his free time he enjoyed the Colorado outdoors by picking up his golf clubs, or riding his bike in the local state and city parks and the Santa Fe Trail. He loved downhill skiing, jet skiing, and boating with family. And of course, no outing would be complete without a BBQ. His business ventures with family had him serve in various positions on the Homeowners’ Association board over the past 20 years. He loved watching his sons hone their basketball skills, attended every game he possibly could, and served as Vice President and Treasurer for the Pine Creek High School Basketball Booster Club. He always had a list of projects at home, and was the first to lend a hand, day or night, to a family member or friend in need. He was a diehard Nuggets, Broncos, and Avalanche fan – a true Colorado guy!
John is survived by his wife Sherri, and sons Grant and Nathan; parents John Robert (Bob) and Lorene Morin of Colorado Springs; brother Joe (Kathy) of Colorado Springs; brother Jim (Michelle) of Colorado Springs; sister Mary (Jeff Hannasch) of Wasilla, Alaska; sister Christine (Mark Schieve) of Boise, Idaho; brother Jeff of Colorado Springs; brother Jerry of Santa Anna, California; brother Jason (Holly) of Colorado Springs; his in-laws Jim and Jane McCann; 15 nephews and nieces; cousins, and countless loving friends.
