Born in 1933 in Miami, Florida, JoAnne studied music at the University of Miami, where she met and married Joseph Henjum in 1954. She was a devoted Air Force wife and mother, traveling the world, raising two children, and serving in a wide variety of volunteer and paid positions during Joe’s 26-year career, which included a tour at the US Air Force Academy. After active duty, the couple returned to Colorado Springs for good, where JoAnne worked for 10 years alongside her husband as Director of Marketing at Cheyenne Place Retirement Community. JoAnne was a member of First Lutheran Church and, in the last several years of her life, of First Congregational Church.
JoAnne will be remembered for her loyalty to friends and family, her devotion to God, and her generous spirit. She had a soft spot in her heart for the underdog, and often found herself called to assist those in need.
An only child, JoAnne is survived by her two children, Mark Henjum and Nancy Henjum, both residents of Colorado Springs, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Home Front Cares.
JoAnne will be laid to rest with her husband at the Air Force Academy Cemetery. Services will be held this fall.
