Jean met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by three of her beloved daughters and left this world knowing she was truly loved.
Jean was born in Kentucky on September 20, 1929. Shortly thereafter, she traveled by train with her family to Colorado Springs because her father, suffering with tuberculosis, needed Colorado’s dry climate to live. They arrived on October 29, 1929, the day the market crashed, and began their life here at the start of the Great Depression.
She had a passion for life and found joy and happiness in most everything. After meeting the love of her life, Louis Costello, while working at Shepherd’s Citations, they married on July 23, 1948 and had six children over the next 16 years. They built their lives around a strong love and faith. Amazingly, they put all six children through private school on just Louis’ salary. Jean made sure her children always came first as she saved every penny and poured it into meeting all her family’s needs from nightly home cooked meals to saving a little each month to ensure an amazing Christmas for those she loved.
Jean had a fun-loving, competitive spirit and whether she was playing poker or bridge her friends knew to beware. Importantly, Jean also had a compassionate nature as demonstrated by volunteering in the children’s ward at Penrose hospital for 20 years where she welcomed worried families, held newborn babies and comforted the sick.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Louis and is survived by her children Diana, Cynthia, Bob, Valerie, Rose and Kathy as well as twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, leaving a legacy of love.
