Janice Geuting

Janice was born in Seminole, Texas and attended school in Louisiana and Mississippi. She enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 and served 23 years as a medical technician and instructor. As one of the few enlisted women in the military during the 1960s, she was trailblazer, overcoming bias and restrictions to rise steadily through the ranks. She finished her career as Superintendent of Independent Duty Medical Technicians (IDMT) for the 601st Tactical Control Wing, overseeing all IDMTs in Germany, Turkey, and Egypt. She was the highest ranking enlisted woman on Sembach AB at the time and served as the advisor to the 17th Air Force commander on female enlisted matters.

Following her retirement, Janice worked for a defense contractor and then 10 years as a Government Civil Servant. She finally retired completely in 2004. Along the way, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in Montgomery in 1999. In her free time, Janice loved to run and was a dedicated member of the Women’s Fit Team. She could be seen in many of their team pictures, usually sticking out her tongue. She also was a diehard Auburn War Eagle football fan and a season ticket holder for three Air Force Academy sports teams.

Janice is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, and sister. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Colonel (ret) David Geuting, USAF. She will be laid to rest at the United States Air Force Academy cemetery at a date to be determined.
