Glenda was born on a farm in Clay County Kansas to Everett and Maybel (Switzer) Hughes. Raised in the farming community didn’t prevent her from being shaped by the worldly events of those times: the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and World War II. One of her proudest accomplishments was having been a teacher at Peach Grove School, a one-room school house in Riley County, KS. Her first work away from the farm took her to Colorado. Spending a summer on an Aunt’s orchard outside Loveland formed in her a life-long love of the Rocky Mountains.
Glenda married her childhood sweetheart, Dale Wayne McCormick, in March of 1947, and they made their home in Salina and raised their children, Dana Lee, David Dale and Darryl Everett McCormick.
When Dale retired from Brown Welding Supply they moved to Colorado Springs where Dana and Darryl were members of the Air Force Academy Band.
Dale preceded her in death in 1990, and Dana in 1996.
Glenda is survived by sons David of Kansas City and Darryl of Los Angeles, daughters-in law Martha McCormick and Susan McCullough. Also surviving are grandchildren Tara Rye (Brett Rye), Jesse McCormick (Landon Paul), Hallie McCormick (Kelly Fast), Eliza McCormick, Keelan McCormick, Madison McCormick and great-grandchildren Makenna and Elliot Rye and Lucian McCormick.
