Gerald Eugene Hansen joined his beloved wife Betty in heaven on October 17, 2023. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Thorwald and Inez Hansen, sister Lucille, and son Rick Hansen. He is survived by his brother Herb and sister-in-law Mitzi, his daughter Jodi and son-in-law Deryl, son Jim and daughter-in-law Michele, and son Dave and daughter-in-law Debi. Jerry is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah, Ryan, Ally, Logan, and Sean.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy as a 1st Class Petty Officer and flew on the Super Constellation. He also served his faith and community as a Deacon at Bonnie Brae Baptist Church and Sun City Baptist Church. Throughout his life, no matter where he was, Jerry could often be found on a golf course. While residing in Sun City, Jerry began most days with a few rounds of golf and belonged to the Monarch Golf Club.
Jerry loved going on vacations with his family across the U.S. Family road trips included the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City to taking his children and grandchildren to Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. He loved to drive, and he loved to cook. Sometimes he merged his passions by pulling out a gas griddle at a rest stop during a road trip and cooking a full breakfast.
Jerry was a kind man with a giving heart who always had a joke and a smile at the ready. He enjoyed all things sweet and ensured there was a variety of sweets available to anyone who visited. He had a dedicated work ethic that he passed down to his children and his grandchildren as well. It was also a trait he continued to utilize into his retirement through the hard work he put into his beloved fruit trees - especially his grapefruit tree that made him famous amongst family and friends alike. He was also a dedicated grandfather, taking his grandchildren to parks and playing with them and even teaching each of them to drive his golf cart—some just when they could finally reach the pedals. Jerry also taught his love of golf to his grandchildren by taking them to play putt-putt as often as possible - a passion they still share today.
He will always be in our hearts and memories.
