George Kish, 84, passed away on May 17, 2011. Born on December 25, 1926 in Paulsboro, New Jersey to Stephen and Elizabeth (Lesko) Kish, both of whom preceded him in death as well as a brother, Stephen Kish, two sisters, Irene McCann and Mary Gezzi, and a daughter, Heidi M. Barnette. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elisabeth E. (Sauer) Kish, sons George F. and Steve D., daughters Evelyn E. and Theresa A., seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two sisters Elizabeth Shores and Agnes Shetter and a host of nieces and nephews.
Growing up in South Jersey near the Delaware River and working in the Philadelphia shipyards may have sparked George’s desire to join the Navy, but he was assigned instead to the Army. As some consolation to him, while serving in Europe during WWII, he met his wife, Betty, and started a family that would eventually include five children.
He served his country faithfully for over 26 years, a Veteran of Korea and Vietnam as well, retiring in October 1971. After a short respite, he embarked on a career in Civil Service that would span another twenty years.
A generous, responsible and loving husband and father, his departure was unexpected, and those who knew and loved him will feel his absence.
