George Edward Hoke, 82, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Brighton Care Center in Brighton, Colorado. He was born to Hugh Bachman Hoke and Madeline Sophia (Ritter) Hoke on June 22, 1929 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from John Harris High School in 1947. He went on to study banking and finance.
George married Betty Sheriff on April 12, 1958 in Winchester, Virginia. The Hokes moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 10, 1965. George worked for the Air Force Academy Credit Union then managed Colorado Springs City Employees Credit Union (now Aventa Credit Union) from 1967 until his retirement in December 1987.
George enjoyed working with model trains, traveling with his wife, watching/listening to baseball games and listening to his 1940’s record albums. He served as an usher at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs and was a member of the Ambassadors Sunday School Class.
George and Betty moved to Brighton on July 5, 2011 to live closer to their daughter, Brenda. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer three weeks later.
George is survived by his wife and daughter, both of Brighton. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, August 8, 2011 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Interment will take place at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow the interment at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Presbyterian Church Missions Fund or the American Cancer Society.
