Fred Elgin Jayne, age 96, passed away May 14, 2022 at the home of his daughter, Yvonne Denise Jayne Pyne. Fred was born November 16, 1925 in Grand Junction, Colorado, the son of Whitney Whitaker Jayne and Pearl Nora Latimer Jayne.
During Fred’s early years, the Great Depression was in full swing. His dad was out of work and on “Relief”. Living during that time period and WWII really impacted Fred and he learned the meaning of a dollar and taught those lessons to his children. Fred joined the Navy in December 1943 and went to boot camp in Farragut, Idaho. He served on an LST (Landing Ship, Tank) during World War II in the Pacific.
After the war and while on leave in his home town of Grand Junction, Fred met Virginia Fay Franklin. They were married June 23, 1946 in Loma, Colorado. They were sealed in the Oakland, California Temple on December 22, 1973.
Fred worked various jobs and then went to work at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado as an instrument technician where he worked for 25 years and then retired.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Fay Franklin Jayne; his parents; one brother, Walter William Jayne; two sisters, Mildred May Jayne and Agnes Louise Jayne Nichols; and 2 grandchildren, Brian Eugene Jayne and Jennifer Jayne.
His is survived by one brother, Leslie Everett Jayne (June); one sister, Alice Marie Jayne Miller (Chuck-deceased); two sons, Fred Eugene Jayne (Paula), Ronald Henry Jayne (Charlotte), and one daughter, Yvonne Denise Jayne Pyne (Terry). He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4955 Meadowland Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. A viewing will be held from 12:15 PM to 12:55 PM in the Relief Society Room. Interment will be at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 9:00 AM.
