Edna was the first child born to Percy and Irma (Carter) Hiatt. The Hiatts resided in Emporia, Kansas. There were four other children; Roy A. Hiatt, Helen Hiatt Wade, Vernon C. Hiatt all deceased and Percy D. Hiatt and wife June of Greeley, Colorado. Edna's father drove a truck for New Process Laundry pick-up and delivery service. Her mother was a homemaker.
Edna attended Emporia Public School through High School. She also attended Emporia Teachers College and graduated Cum Laud with a teaching degree. She married Fenton Vest and into this union two children were born. Steven Vest of Bailey, Colorado and Shari Vest Mlynek deceased. Other surviving members are Ed Mlynek, Shari's husband and their daughter Sarah, husband Steve and children Hailey Rae and Logan Timothy Edward Kobler of Stockton, Ca., Steven's son Ryan Vest of Duluth, Georgia, along with a number of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Edna began her teaching career in Kansas where she and Fenton both taught. After vacationing in Colorado, they decided to make their home in Woodland Park in 1961. Edna retired from teaching First Grade where she had taught two generations of students. After Fenton's passing, Edna had resided there until February 2008 when she was moved to Cedarwood Health Care Facility in Old Colorado City. She was a member of The Snow Flakes Chapter of Eastern Star.
