Don was born in Burlington Colorado and was raised on a farm in eastern Colorado with his two other siblings, Ernie and Darlene. Don had a love for animals and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
He was married to Rita Werner from Stratton Colorado for 53 years. Together they raised three boys, Jeff, Brian and Darin.
He was a loving grandfather of eight grandchildren Lauren, Dalton, Garrett, Cade, Chase, Jett, Kurt and Brandi. His grandchildren will remember him always for his fabulous bean soup, the special trips to the store to buy them donuts, the joy that was on his face every time we were around and his loving and beautiful demeanor.
Don was known for his sparkling eyes that could light up a room and his ability to always make someone laugh with the funny things he’d say.
Don passed away from a heart failure on November 12, 2015 in Penrose Main in Colorado Springs.
Because of Don and Rita’s love for children, Rita would like to suggest donations be made to the Donald James Ziegler Memorial Fund, St. Judes Children's Hospital.
