Charlotte was born Nov 8, 1929 in St. Paul, MN. She was the only daughter of William E. Johnson and Minnie Delia Fagerstrom. She is a graduate of Harding High School’s class of 1947. Soon after graduating she set out for the wilds of Alaska to work as a stewardess for the Alaskan Railroad. There she met the love of her life, Herbert L. Sutherland of Ottawa, KS. The two were wed on March 13, 1949 and enjoyed 65 years together as husband and wife. Herb and Charlotte have lived in Colorado since 1952 where they raised 7 children. They were long time members of the Adams City Baptist Church of that city, and more recently, Lighthouse Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Her belief in a living Lord and Savior carried her through all of life’s endeavors and compelled her to be a light in this world.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her mother, father and a brother, Robert V. Johnson of St Paul. She is survived by her husband, Herb, seven children and their spouses: Gwen & Dan Gee of Englewood, Fred & Eleanor Sutherland of Brighton, Brian & Brenda Sutherland of Turlock, CA, Ray & Robin Sutherland of Falcon, Ned & Marilou Sutherland of Lafayette, IN, Ted & Marlene Sutherland of Golden, Dan & Cindy Sutherland of Colorado Springs, 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Charlotte had an infectious laugh and loving spirit. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
