Carol Sue Shaw, 61, beloved daughter, sister, friend and teacher to many passed away peacefully with family members at her side on March 29, 2012 losing her long battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother, Mary Kay McCoy of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and three sisters: Linda Reeves of Woodburn, Oregon; Judy McCoy of Columbus, Ohio; and Sandy Shute of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Carol Sue was born in Washington C. H., Ohio in 1951. From an early age Carol’s talent for drawing and creating art projects was obvious, a love that became her profession. While attending Ohio State University, Carol’s artistic abilities were developed and expanded into painting, design, print making, illustration, sculpture and advanced figure drawing. Upon graduation Carol began sharing her gifts by teaching students in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Colorado where she retired from Wasson High School in 2011. She had continued learning throughout her career acquiring a Master’s Degree and expanding her own repertoire as an artist through workshops, exhibiting her own juried work, winning competitions and working as a freelance artist.
An accomplished artist in her own right, Carol’s greatest satisfaction and joy came from helping her students achieve things they never would have without her love and guidance. Likewise, for both her family and friends, Carol could be counted on to give her support, wisdom, and love unconditionally whenever it was needed. Those who knew her well realized that she was a one of a kind whose zest for life was contagious. Carol had a passion for art and for sharing a gift with adolescents who came to life during the process of self expression. We are all better people for having known her.
Besides her love of life and the people around her, Carol Sue was also passionate about all animals and their care, especially her own pets which she considered to be a part of her family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Swan-Law, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Carol requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Dream Power Animal Rescue, Pikes Peak Humane Society, or to the Oncology Unit at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs
