Bonnie Mae Scott

Bonnie Scott, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2015 at her home. Bonnie was born June 24, 1932, in Alamosa, Colorado to Mary and William Medina. Bonnie cherished her childhood and her wonderful life growing up in Alamosa; chasing her tire through the Chico bushes, making her own westerns at their farm house, and attending the Rialto Theater to see movies, her true love.

Bonnie and her family moved to Colorado Springs in 1950. Bonnie always being the adventurer and wanting to be part of Hollywood moved to California living in Santa Monica and working at Farmer’s Insurance. Bonnie took acting classes and attended premiers as many young star struck fans. Bonnie soon grew home sick; missed her mountains and her family, and moved back to Colorado Springs.

Bonnie got a job at Alexander Film Company and began bowling through an in house league. There she met many lifelong friends and her future husband, Archie Scott. Bonnie was always athletic and played softball, skied and loved to camp and fish. Bonnie bought a Jeep so she could get away with her tent. She and her mother spent many weekends enjoying the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Bonnie moved on from Alexander Film Company in 1957 and went to work at School District 11 where she worked in the purchasing department until 1967. Bonnie left the school district when she and Archie were married. Archie’s boy’s Archie Jr. and Don (Sally) and their families welcomed Bonnie. Archie and Bonnie started a family of their own with two more children, Jennene and Owen. Bonnie was a full time mother and provided her children a loving and happy home, filled with wonderful memories, easy laughter and continued appreciation of movies and bowling. The family traveled on road trips and camping trips into the mountains as Bonnie and Archie loved to fish.

Bonnie became more active in bowling and was invited by some of her teammates to bowl the WIBC Tournament. Bonnie continued to bowl and became involved in the organization and management of the local association. Bonnie joined the CWBA Board of Directors in 1979. Bonnie was elected Vice President in 1981 and became President in 1983. Bonnie served as President till 1992. Bonnie was recognized at the State Level with the inaugural Ila Herrin President’s Award for outstanding local leadership in 1996. Bonnie then decided to take on a different challenge within the organization and moved into the position of Secretary. Bonnie served as Secretary for the local women’s organization as it transitioned into USBC from 1996 till 2005. Bonnie was also recognized at the State Level as one of the Outstanding Local Association Secretary’s. When the three local associations merged in 2005 she was elected a Vice President. Bonnie then was elected President of the joint PPUSBC in 2007 and served till 2011. Bonnie decided it was time for new leadership and decided to retire, but was elected in 2011 as Director and served until 2014.

Bonnie was also involved with youth bowling and became a Certified Coach Instructor 1982, coaching at Bowl Mor Lanes. Bonnie also served on the Pikes Peak YABA board as director in 1987 until the merger of the associations in 2005.

Bonnie was also active on the State and National Level. Bonnie was elected to the Colorado Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors in 1997 and served as a director until the state organization merged and then was elected to the joint CUSBC board in 2008. Bonnie was elected Sergeant of Arms 2008 and served until 2014. Bonnie attended both the WIBC and USBC Annual Conventions as a delegate 30 years. Bonnie’s dedication and abilities were recognized as the National level when she was asked to serve at the WIBC Convention as an Assistant Sergeant at Arms for 9 years, Teller Committee for 4 years, and Nominating Committee for 2 years.

Bonnie enjoyed traveling to the various tournament cities and getting to see so much of the country through bowling. Bonnie bowled 39 National Tournaments, 43 State Tournaments and 50 local tournaments.

Bonnie’s vast knowledge, dedication and excellence in bowling were recognized in 1992 when she was elected to the CSWBA Hall of Fame and again in 1998 when she was recognized by the CWBA State Hall of Fame. Bonnie’s knowledge of rules, legislation, procedures and ability to work with so many people made her asset to any organization.

Bonnie also bowled well and was a First Place Singles Champion for the State in 1970. Bonnie and her teams would frequently cash in tournaments. Bonnie average in the 170’s throughout most of her tenure on the lanes. Bonnie’s high game was a 265 and 650 series. Bonnie bowled three leagues in the 2013-2014 and was the secretary for one of her leagues. Bonnie had many wonderful friends through bowling and enjoyed competition.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Violet Rogers, and her husband, Archie Scott.

Bonnie is survived by: her brother, Wallace Medina and his family; her children, Jennene, Owen and his wife Jennifer, and their children, Chandler, Haley and Madyson. Bonnie is also survived by Archie, Jr. and Don (Sally) and their families.
