Betty Mae Burgess, age 93, passed away at New Day Cottages on March 22, 2024. She was born August 23, 1930, in Elbert, Colorado to Earl and Dorothy Squires. Betty Mae graduated from Elbert High School in 1949. She attended Colorado A&M (CSU) after high school.
Betty married Richard Burgess on June 22, 1952 at First Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Richard served in the United States Air Force and she joined him until he ended his assignment in 1955 when they moved back to Colorado Springs. She worked for Alexander Film Company and Weigel’s Bookkeeping.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sharron (Bill) Evans and Patricia (Tim) McFarland and a brother, Russell Squires. She has four grandchildren, Will (Katie) Evans, Jennifer (James) Brown, Trevor (Natalie) McFarland and Brett (Kayla) McFarland. Betty has eight great-grandchildren, Corin and Lydia Brown, Thoran and Mazie McFarland, Hope and Liam Evans, and Jake and Hudson McFarland. She also has several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and infant son, Richard Wayne as well as sister-in-law’s, Donna Mae Homer, Vonnie Squires, and Lois Vandervoort.
Betty was a wonderful homemaker and 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family. She attended Grace Presbyterian Church which is where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, Cathedral Room, 219 E. Bijou, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to New Day Cottages, 1577 Turner Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920.
