Barbara Ann (Davis) Hacker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at the age of 87. Barbara was surrounded by loving family in her final hours, with her beloved daughter Laura by her bedside, holding her hand when she passed. Her last words were to Laura, “I love you.”
Born on April 17, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Barbara grew up and spent most of her life in and around Oklahoma City. She was a cherished member of the Full Gospel Assembly community and a source of kindness to all who knew her. Barbara married Robert Reese Hacker on February 24, 1978, and they shared a 46-year adventure together. Bringing together their two daughters, they built a family based on traditional values of strength, independence, and personal responsibility. A kind and generous soul, Barbara’s door was always open to take in family and friends in need.
Barbara worked hard and built a professional career over 30 years at Western Electric and eventually AT&T. Starting on the line, assembling telephone switches and circuit boards, her passion for technology and natural aptitude for leadership soon found her leading a team that designed and built the cutting-edge Cold War communication system installed in the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) Command Center in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. She ultimately retired from AT&T in 1992 as a Senior Purchasing Manager, at the time still a rare accomplishment for a woman. She loved spending time with her family and relished her freedom in retirement to travel and dote on her grandchildren, Payton, Blake, Sarah, and Jenice as well as her great-grandchildren, Abrielle, Derrick, Greysen, Brayden, and Alexis who she was fortunate enough to know and love.
When not traveling and spending time with family, Barbara enjoyed working on home improvement projects, reading, tracing genealogy, and gardening. She stayed particularly close to friends Carol and Lloyd Boatman, working with Carol in her tax business as computers and online filing became the norm. Barbara was a technology early-adopter; She had home computers since 1984, and always had the latest iPad and iPhone.
Barbara was preceded by her parents, David Davis and Frances Etta Guinn Davis, and her older sister Marilyn. Remaining to cherish Barbara’s memory are her husband Robert, her younger sister Lorene, her daughter Laura, stepdaughter Sandy, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held October 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Minco First Baptist Church, 502 S.W. Burt St, Minco, Oklahoma 73059. Interment of ashes will follow at Friendship Cemetery 1071-1077 County Street 2790, Minco, Oklahoma, 73059. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in Barbara’s name/memory.
