Finding the words has been a difficult challenge. Astrid was my dear friend and my heart breaks for her children and grandchildren.
Astrid and I would often get together and gripe about the world, problem solve and tell stories that made fun of ourselves. I am so blessed to have some stories that Astrid shared that have kept me laughing for years when I think about them.
I will hold on to the memories and the laughter that we shared.
My condolences to her boys, their wives and their children and all of her friends that loved her so dearly.

I became acquainted with Astrid following the passing of  her beloved Jesse, as she was our neighbor in Colorado Springs.  

After we moved away, Astrid and I still stayed in touch and had coffee meetings when I was able to return to The Springs.

Astrid is warm and tender in her manner.  I felt honored and blessed to have had her in my life for these past few years.  It is difficult to believe someone so very full of life has left us behind.  She will live on in our hearts because she has deposited so much love and kindness there.

Our remembrance of Astrid.
From our perspective, Astrid was a woman of action. Always on the go, she never deviated from her convictions. She sacrificed herself for others. Her love was unconditional and ever present. Maria and I were blessed by Astrid's love. We ask now how can we ever repay her for the love she gave to us? We have no doubt, many feel the same about Astrid. For Astrid's sons and their families, We want to simply say, we loved your mother. 

Recalling Aeschylus, he wrote: "He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."

Maria and I hope someday to understand God's plan for Astrid's life. We bless Astrid with thoughts of her goodness and her many kindnesses. Astrid was our stalwart, first and best friend here in Colorado Springs. And we pray that our beloved Astrid rests in peace in the palms of God's hands.

I first want to say I am so sorry for your loss! I met Astrid in June of 2020. My brother Lloyd was an alcoholic and he was homeless. Astrid had been working with him to help him find housing. She had heard on the streets that he was in the hospital. She got my phone number from his paperwork. She called me to ask how he was doing. Unfortunately, he had a brain bleed that was inoperable, and he would not be able to live without life support, the family decided to take him off of life support. I told her, she asked if I would let her know when and where the service was, because she would like to come if I didn't mind. She came to the service, and we talked for quite a while about him. She had such kind words to say about him. It really helped me in my grieving process. I could tell that even though he was what most people would consider unworthy, she truly cared about him and looked beyond the outward appearances and saw his heart. She and others at Westside Cares got together and had a memorial service for him so that his homeless friends could remember him. We texted throughout the next couple of years. I liked her from the very moment I met her. I considered her my friend. She was so sincerely kind and compassionate. I know that she will be missed by many, especially those closest to her. 

Astrid, you will be missed.  We enjoyed your visits to our home so much; it is difficult to believe that you are no longer here.  Our sincere sympathy goes to your entire family.  The encouragement you always gave so willing and your concern and regard for others was remarkable.
You made Erich so happy when you visited him, and you always took time to make other people happy.  The world needs more people like you to make it a better place.

My deepest sympathies to Anneliese, Heike & Dirk; to Aaron, Steven, Michael & Jeremy and their families; and, especially to all of Astrid's beloved grandchildren.  I feel truly blessed to have called Astrid "friend" even though I've never had the pleasure to shake her hand or to give her a hug. She was a gift I will always cherish. She gave  hope and guidance to the troubled and vulnerable. She listened with an open heart; heard without judgement; guided with courage and truth.

Thank you for sharing your daughter, your sister, your Mom and Grandmother with me. She's never to be forgotten.
