Ed (as he was known to family and friends) was born in Colorado Springs, CO on September 8, 1944 to Arthur and Masel Simpson and was the third of their four children. Ed graduated from Palmer High School in 1964. He married Sharon (Sheri) Morrell in 1965.
Ed and Sheri moved to El Paso, TX when he was drafted into the Army in 1966. Once his service was over, they returned to Colorado Springs and purchased their home where they raised their family, son Chad and daughter Cara. Ed (known as Art to the people he worked with) worked for Transit Mix Concrete Company for 47 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and Trap/Skeet shooting. He tried golf and even gold panning for a bit.
He was a giant of a man (6’ 7”) with a gentle heart. He was an amazing Dad and full of love for his children. “Wait until you Father gets home!” was a threat that we heard often growing up and it worked. We were never scared of Dad punishing us, we were scared of disappointing him. Such was the strength of his love.
Ed is survived by his younger brother, Clint Simpson; his two children: Chad Simpson (Candy Renck) and Cara Bement (Gary Bement); his granddaughter, Autumn Bement and two step-grandchildren, Cody West and Kimberly Rienau.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Sheri on June 20, 2020. The family will host a Celebration of Life to celebrate both Ed and Sheri on Sunday, November 3 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 1050 South 21st Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 (former location of the Hall of Presidents). Please join the family to share memories, stories and to celebrate the lives of Ed and Sheri Simpson.
A celebration of life for Arthur will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Fraternal Order of Eagles #143, 1050 S 21st St., Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
