Stephen Allan Roark, 69, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Steve was born on August 20, 1952 to Burnham and Anne Roark in Wake Forest, Illinois.
Steve joined the United States Navy April 1, 1975 and was honorably discharged March 11, 1980. He served on the Parche and the Seawolf submarines. Steve worked as a radiographer at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for 20 years. While working there, he met Rhonda and picked her up for their first date at the Ronald McDonald House where Rhonda and her son, Dylan, were staying during his treatments. He and Rhonda McAnear Slater married May 29, 1999 at the Ronald McDonald House in Dallas, Texas. After their marriage, Steve moved to Colorado City and worked at Mitchell County Hospital as a radiographer for 13 years before retiring in 2021. Steve and Rhonda enjoyed traveling together over the years. They visited many places, including Ireland, where they met special friends Brad and Karen. The two couples traveled together on several occasions. Steve loved sports and especially enjoyed watching live sporting events. He visited many sports stadiums and arenas with his wife, brothers, sons, grandkids and friends. Steve never met a stranger and if he did he was sure to make you a friend.
Steve is survived by Rhonda, wife of 22 years; sons Brian Roark of Garland, Tx; Colby Slater and wife, Jody, of Abilene, Tx; Dylan Slater of Colorado City, Tx; Nathan Slater and wife, Stacy, of Colorado City, Tx; grandchildren Avery Powell of Paris, Tx; Noah Roark of Austin, Tx; Kiera Roark of Quinland, Tx; Cutter Salinas of Hollis, Ok; Ayden and Paxton Slater of Colorado City, Tx; Jessica Slater of Abilene, Tx; great grandchildren Xeno Powell and Rhys Haskell of Paris, Tx; and grand dog Luna Pandora Slater of Colorado City, Tx. He is also survived by brothers George Chabot and wife, Mollie, of Mojave Valley, Az; Skip Roark and wife, Dawn, of South Lake, Tx; James Roark of Cedar Hill, Tx; sisters Gloria Foster and husband, Carl, of Watts, Ok; Christine Brown and husband, Jeff, of Kyle, Tx; Susie Pommerening and husband, Larry, of Wylie, Tx; brothers-in-law Keith McAnear and Shawn McAnear; sister-in-law Kay Porter; and many nephews, nieces and great friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Burnham and Anne Roark, sister Sandra Jean Roark, and in-laws Dewey and Jewel McAnear and Doc and Evelyn Slater.
Funeral/Memorial services will be 2 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Colorado City, Tx with Dr. Jerry Shields officiating. Service will be live streamed from the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Facebook Page. A visitation will be 5-7 pm on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City, Tx.
