Gladys was the first born of James Monroe Turner and Mamie Gertrude Duff Turner, born on November 2, 1920. She married John V. Howard on November 4, 1939 in Colorado City, TX. He preceded her in death December 17, 2010.
Gladys loved being around people and especially her family and friends. She had a beautiful laugh that would just hug you. She managed the concession stand at the new Lone Wolf Drive-In Theater in the early 1950’s for approximately 10 years. She then worked for C.R. Anthony Department Store for 32 years until retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colorado City and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her four children and spouses. Daughter, Reta Jo Bird Lopez and husband Tony of Grand Prairie; son, Donald Howard and wife Linda of Irving, TX; daughter, Doris Jones Davis and husband Gavin (Gabby) of Colorado City; and daughter, Pat Walls and husband Edward Walls of Powderly, TX. Lovingly called “Ma” by her family, she is also survived by 10 Grandchildren, Rick Bird, Ronnie Bird, Tina Hughes, of the Dallas area; also Toni Bird of Florida and Reta Lynn Holt from Idaho; granddaughter Lisa Cole from Oklahoma City, OK. Also surviving is a grandson, Mike Jones of Colorado City and granddaughter Dianne Jones Clifton of Colorado City; granddaughters, April Walls Robicheaux of Flower Mound, TX and Robin Walls Browne of Haslet, TX. She had fourteen great-grandchildren, Katie, Josiah, William, Rick, April, Dennis, Timothy, Melanie, Adam, Sara, Noah, Paige, Kara, and Macie; as well as five great-great-grandchildren, Stella, Hunter, Faye, Delilah, and Shelby.
Our Mother was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John V. Howard; parents, Jim and Mamie Turner; brothers, Dale Turner, Wayne Turner, and Bill Turner; and sister, Eva Jo White.
The family will receive visitors Friday, January 30th, from 6PM-8PM at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Saturday, January 31st at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Jerry Shields officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons; Tim Jones, Adam Clifton, Tony Clifton, Ronnie Bird, Rick Bird, William Hughes, and Jay Browne.
