He was born on March 5, 1944, in the old Root Memorial Hospital of Colorado City to Heston and Geneva Oliver Redwine.
Don was a graduate of Loraine High School, where he was a very active student, playing football, basketball, and track, and was a member of the FFA. When He was 22, Don was drafted into the Marine Corp, where he spent two years during the Vietnam War and earned several service medals. After he served his country, Don spent 31 years as a lease operator for Chevron Oil Company before opening the AutoMart Parts Store in Colorado City in 1991.
Don was a man who was all about family; he was a great husband, an even better father and grandfather, and a loving and attentive brother. He taught his family to love their Lord, to work hard, and how to work the land. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City since 1992. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors. He farmed cotton until 1980, broke horses until he got too old, raised cattle, ranched, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Don is survived by his wife Liz Redwine of Colorado City, who he married in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on June 10, 1988, by two sons Cary Redwine and wife Lindsey of Arlington and Hayden Redwine of Colorado City, by three daughters Cami Rivera and husband Arthur of Colorado City, Baillie Terry and husband Kegan of Kerrville, and Alexis Williams and husband Jay of Colorado City. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dakota Redwine, Ashley Redwine, Kyle Rivera, Kaci Rivera, Aiden Redwine, Emma Terry, and Tanner Redwine, by great-grandchild Raven Redwine, and by a sister Sharon Hammond and her husband Morris of Colorado City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother David Redwine.
A funeral service for Don will be held at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City on Thursday, March 4th at 2 pm with Gene Self officiating; burial will follow in the Spade Cemetery. Active Pall Bearers will be Arthur Rivera, Kyle Rivera, Aaron Rivera, Jay Williams, Austyn Rivera, Joe Rivera, Charlie Garrett, and Monty Rich. Serving as honorary Bearers will be Charlie Lagow, Kenny Gillespie, Ernie Dunson, Frank Biggers, Bob Burroughs, Dustin Anders, Rodney Hallmark, Billy Cornnut, Larry Sims, Glen Sullivan, Rodney Dockrey, and Barry Holman
