He was born in Duncan Oklahoma on December 10, 1945 to Joiel and Oma Mitchell Chapman.
Byrle graduated from Loco Oklahoma in 1964 and was drafted in the Army to go to Vietnam in 1966. After serving his time as a Sergeant in the 4th Division Infantry Byrle left the Army in 1968 to attend Grayson County Community College and marry Judy Berg, the love of his life. For most of his life Byrle was a pumper for Chevron Oil Company, where he retired after proudly working for 36 years. Byrle was a “Jack of all Trades” with a hand delicate enough for a flower but strong enough to build anything you could imagine. To his family he was a true super-man showing the unending love of a husband, a father, and a grandfather. There was not a sporting event or school function for his grandchildren that he would miss unless it was impossible for him to be there. In his spare time he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and would spend countless hours tending to his yard and his garden.
Byrle is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Chapman, by his sons Mike Chapman and wife Christi of Snyder and Greg Chapman and wife Kelly of Coahoma, by grandchildren; Trace Chapman, Nathan Chapman, Morgan Chapman, and Reagan Chapman, and by a brother Bob Chapman and his wife Joyce of Tom Bean, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his brothers J.T. Chapman, Jack Chapman, Mack Chapman, and Myrle Chapman, and by his sisters Lucille Hudson, Imogene Stewart, Mary O’Dell, and Ada Huckabee.
A graveside service for Byrle will be held in the Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene on Wednesday, April 14th at 11 am with Rev. Donald Ward of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado City officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Mike Chapman, Greg Chapman, Trace Chapman, Nathan Chapman, Reagan Chapman, and Skeet Chapman. Bob Chapman will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
