Bob was born September 8, 1941 in Knox City, Texas to Jeanette and Gerald (G.C.) Lemons. As a boy, Bob and his parents moved to Colorado City, Texas. He graduated from Colorado High School in 1961, and Sul Ross College in 1965. Upon graduation, he began his career as a teacher and coach in Sweetwater, Texas, but was soon drafted. Bob served two years in the United States Army, and was stationed for a time in Germany. When he came home, he was hired to coach in Clarendon, Texas where he met and married Joan Gover. Bob’s dedication to education led him to earn a Master’s degree from New Mexico Highlands University in 1973. His coaching career took Bob and Joan to Clyde, Texas and eventually back to his hometown of Colorado City where he was also a long-time Principal at Kelley and Hutchinson Elementary Schools. During that time, Bob and Joan raised their two sons, Jerry and Jim. Bob retired from education in 1997, but remained active as a volunteer in the community he loved. In 2018, he was recognized as the Colorado City Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and Wolf Creek Golf Course. He was a character, a good friend, and beloved by many in the area.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joan. They were married 53 years, and “they were all good years”. He is also survived by his son Jerry, daughter-in-law Robin, and grandson Bo; son Jim, daughter-in-law Christy, and granddaughters Riley and Mattie.
Bob was a dedicated husband, a good father, and a funny grandpa. If he was here today, he would shake your hand and wish you a Merry Christmas, no matter the date.
A funeral service for Bob will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
