Bettie Lou Slaten (née Kyle), 78, peacefully passed away on November 11, 2024, in Loraine, TX. Born on March 5, 1946, in Biardstown, TX, Bettie’s life was a testament to unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to her loved ones.
Bettie was married to her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck” Slaten, for 58 years before he recently preceded her in death. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and resilience, supporting each other through life’s many seasons.
Bettie devoted many years to nurturing young minds as a preschool teacher in Texas, impacting countless children and families before retiring to Willis, OK, in 1995. A beloved member of Gordonville Baptist Church, Bettie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she cherished the friendships and fellowship she found within her church community.
With a gentle spirit and generous heart, Bettie found joy in her flower beds and plants, spending countless hours tending to her garden, where her love and patience blossomed. She shared this passion with Chuck as they worked side by side in their mowing business. Her love for the outdoors reflected her hardworking nature.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, Bewel and Mina Kyle; her siblings, Jesse, Rebecca, Robert, Donald, and Clyde; and her husband, Charles Slaten. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her son, James Slaten; daughter, Carla Kern; daughter-in-law, Theresa Slaten; son-in-law, Chris Kern; grandchildren, Makenzie, Mallory, Allison, Keith, Kendall; great-grandsons, Nathanial and Rhett, who will forever remember her kindness and devotion.
A combined memorial service for Charles and Bettie Slaten will be held at a later date to honor their lives together. Bettie’s compassionate heart and dedication to her family, friends, and faith will live on in the memories of all who were fortunate to know her.
