He was born in Lubbock County on August 30, 1928 to the late Albert and Lilly Ehler Raschke. In 1951 Alvin was drafted into the US Army and served active duty in Korea. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action in 1952, the US military’s third highest decoration for valor in combat. After the war, Alvin attended The University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in August 1958.
Family was of the utmost importance to Alvin, for whom he was totally dedicated. At the age of 24 on February 17, 1953 he married the love of his life, Miss Peggy Henry, and together they raised a son and two daughters. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, and took great pride in watching them grow up. Alvin worked as a petroleum engineer for over 28 years for the Texas Railroad Commission, 15 of which were as the District Director. He was an honest hard working man who loved to keep busy. He devoted much of his time tending his garden and entertaining family and friends at his retirement home at Lake Buchanan.
Alvin is survived by his wife Peggy Raschke of San Angelo, his son Robert Raschke and wife Reva of Houston, his eldest daughter, Elaine Rogers and fiancé Charles Mazoch, of Houston, and his youngest daughter, Debora Forrest of San Angelo. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sabra Spitzer and husband Robert, Kenneth Forrest III and wife Cindy, Amanda Moore and husband Thomas, and Travis Rogers, and by his great-grandchildren Stormi Spitzer and Howie Spitzer. Also surviving are his brothers Alton Raschke and wife Linda of Colorado City, E.J. Raschke and wife Brooksie of Midland, and Larry Raschke and wife Karyn of Leander, and by a sister Laura Notgrass and husband Burl of Stanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Thomas Raschke, a brother, Loyd Raschke, and a sister, Margaret Grant.
A graveside service for Alvin will be held on Friday, March 31st at 2:30 pm in the Colorado City Cemetery with Father Michael Udegbunam from St. Ann’s Catholic Church officiating.
