Sarah was born in Decatur, Illinois on August 15, 1948 to Donald and Dorothy (Baucom) Brotherton. After graduating from Lenape High School, she worked as a bookkeeper at Union National Bank and later as a phone operator for NJ Bell until she married and started a family. She then worked as a homemaker and on the family farm with her first husband. Kathy also worked as a corporate travel agent for many years. Kathy remarried and left New Jersey to live in Oklahoma with her second husband, the late James Kappelman, where she resided for thirty years.
She eventually retired to become a full time caregiver to her husband after he became ill. After her husband's passing in 2021, she bravely made the decision to move back to New Jersey to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Kathy loved to travel and she loved an adventure. She frequently went to New York City for day trips with her daughter and grandchildren to see Broadway shows. She loved a good musical! She also was a big fan of the Dallas Stars and would spend the entire game texting her grandson who worked for them to comment on how they were playing, the score, etc. She was not your average “Grandma”. She was on Facebook, Tik Tok and Instagram. She said she needed to be able to keep up with her grandkids and what the current trends were! She attended Lady Gaga Concerts and Matt Rife shows and loved to go on adventures with her loved ones. She was generous with her time and her finances and donated to many charities.
Kathy was blessed with two families. She was loved by her biological family as well as her chosen family and parents, the late Howard and Thelma (Gerber) Grovatt.
Kathy loved art, photography, spur of the moment road trips, her grand-dogs, but most of all her “Grands” and “Greats”.
She is survived by her siblings; Trisha and Kirk Hill, Patty Parks, Jim and Che Che Grovatt, Juanita Parks, Judy Chappine, Sharon Grovatt and Jim Rogers, Les and Carla Grovatt, Andy and Priya Milloy; her children, Melissa and Howard Goldman, Bobby and Kelly Kappelman, Tony Galindo and Honorary Daughters Daniella Spera and Kristen Andracki; her grandchildren, Kenny and Brittany Creitz, Jon and Taylor Goldman, Shannan Doud, Cassidy Goldman, Tyler Goldman, Amber Strain, Steven and Jenny Kappelman, Justin and Cassandra Goldman; her great-grandchildren, Preston, Maddy, Paige, Madelyn, James, Gabriella, Walker, McKenna, Katelyn and Karli; and her favorite cousins Obbie and Sally and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Blake-Doyle Funeral Home, 226 W. Collings Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08108. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a prayer service.
